Hot Chip Announce A Long Way From Kansas and 2027 UK Tour

Hot Chip Announce A Long Way From Kansas and 2027 UK Tour

Hot Chip have announced A Long Way From Kansas, their ninth studio album, alongside a new single and UK tour dates for March 2027.

The British electronic band revealed the project on Monday 19 October, with the record scheduled for release through Domino on 8 January 2027. Guest appearances include Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon, while lead single “Random Violence” introduces the campaign with a tribute to the late Glasgow DJ Keith McIvor, known as JD Twitch.

For UK fans, the announcement also brings five confirmed headline dates, taking the group to Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol and London next spring.

A Long Way From Kansas opens a new Hot Chip chapter

Domino’s official album announcement explains that the title draws on The Wizard of Oz, with its journey away from home and search for a route back to something familiar.

The record was made at Joe Goddard and Al Doyle’s East London studio, Relax and Enjoy. Alexis Taylor describes the surrounding world as an unavoidable influence on the sessions, with distortion becoming an important part of the band’s approach.

That gives the album a clear tension: music created in response to unease, but still interested in the connection people find through listening and dancing together. Those ideas are already present in the way the band have introduced the first single.

Random Violence remembers JD Twitch

“Random Violence” honours McIvor, the DJ, producer and co-founder of Optimo whose work was closely associated with Glasgow’s club culture. Goddard has linked the song to their friendship and memories of meeting at Sub Club around two decades ago.

Pitchfork’s announcement coverage confirms the tribute and identifies Jack Cole as the director of the accompanying video. The single offers the first released material from the forthcoming album.

The video features Boss Morris, the all-female progressive morris dancing group. Al Doyle has described its imagery as a celebration of humanity, remembrance and resistance, with the group’s memories of Optimo’s Halloween parties helping inspire the idea.

As Under the Radar reports, Hot Chip will also DJ with friends at Glasgow’s Sub Club on Wednesday 21 October. The event connects the album announcement directly to the place and musical community behind the tribute.

Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon join the album

The forthcoming record features Beth Ditto on “Me In Your Head” and Eddie Chacon on “The Garden”. Taylor has also highlighted contributions from within the band, including Felix Martin singing on a Hot Chip record for the first time.

Alongside the guests, the sessions incorporated choir and group vocals. That broader range of voices is part of the record’s character, extending beyond the familiar lead pairing of Taylor and Goddard.

The project follows 2022’s Freakout/Release. It also arrives after a period of looking back, including the twentieth anniversary of The Warning, giving the new announcement a different emphasis: the next studio record is now the focus.

Hot Chip 2027 UK tour dates

Ticketmaster’s current tour listings confirm these British shows:
