Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tops Box Office for Sixth Straight Weekend

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tops Box Office for Sixth Straight Weekend

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has held the North American box-office number one spot for a sixth consecutive weekend as its worldwide total reaches $2.4 billion.

Spider-Man Brand New Day sixth weekend number one is now confirmed, with Sony’s blockbuster holding the top spot at the North American box office for a sixth consecutive weekend and reaching an estimated $2.4 billion worldwide.

The film earned an estimated $18 million from Friday to Sunday over the Labor Day weekend, according to studio estimates reported by the Associated Press. Sony projected a four-day holiday total of $23.3 million, which would take its domestic total to around $923 million.

That run gives Spider-Man: Brand New Day a rare distinction. It is only the second film this decade to spend six consecutive weekends at number one in North America, following Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022.

A remarkable run for Spider-Man

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Brand New Day opened at the end of July and immediately established itself as one of the year’s defining cinema releases.

Sony reported in August that the film opened with $360 million in North America and $932 million worldwide. That initial weekend set a new domestic opening record, while the studio described the response as evidence of the character’s continuing appeal across generations.

Five weeks later, the pace has inevitably slowed, but audiences are still turning up in numbers large enough to keep the film ahead of newer releases. The Numbers placed Brand New Day first for the 4–6 September weekend with $18 million from 3,520 cinemas, taking its three-day domestic total to more than $917 million before the Labor Day Monday was counted.

The $2.4 billion milestone

The bigger headline is the film’s worldwide performance. Sony’s latest estimate puts Brand New Day at $2.4 billion globally, placing it among the highest-grossing films ever released before any adjustment for inflation.

The result is especially striking because the film has maintained its position while competing with another enormous 2026 cinema success. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey remained in second place over the weekend with an estimated $13 million domestically, according to the Associated Press, and has reached approximately $1.63 billion worldwide.

Together, the two films have helped drive a particularly strong summer for cinemas. AP reports that the North American domestic box office had reached $4.6 billion for the summer through 31 August, up 26.1 per cent from 2025. The final figure including Labor Day was projected at around $4.759 billion.

The staying power matters as much as the opening numbers. Major releases commonly deliver their biggest business in their first days before falling away as new films arrive and the initial audience rush subsides. Six consecutive weekends at number one therefore points to sustained demand well beyond the launch period. The weekend chart also remained competitive: The Odyssey was only $5 million behind on the three-day estimate, while Coyote vs. Acme followed with $11.3 million.

Closing in on another record

Brand New Day is also approaching one of the most closely watched domestic box-office records. Sony’s projected $923 million total for the four-day weekend would leave it within roughly $14 million of the unadjusted North American lifetime gross of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Whether and when that record falls will depend on the film’s performance over the coming days, so it remains a prospective milestone rather than a confirmed one. What is already established is that the film has crossed $900 million domestically and has now led the weekend chart six times in succession.

For a franchise that has been a fixture of cinema for decades, this particular run is operating on an exceptional scale. Spider-Man Brand New Day sixth weekend number one is not simply another strong weekend for a superhero release: it extends a box-office performance that has become one of the major entertainment stories of 2026.
