Ellie Goulding Releases I Know Too Much, Her Sixth Studio Album

Ellie Goulding I Know Too Much album has arrived today, 4 September, marking the British pop star’s sixth studio record and her first full-length release since 2023’s chart-topping Higher Than Heaven.

The ten-track album is released through Polydor and includes the previously unveiled Black Prada Dress and Ravers. Rather than presenting the record as a single-concept pop exercise, Goulding has described it as something closer to a musical journal: songs assembled from a period in which her personal life and creative outlook were changing significantly.

Goulding announced I Know Too Much in June, explaining that making the album allowed her to bring her experiences together honestly. In her own description of the project, she said it became “a collection of songs that represent a certain time in my life”, while also allowing her to continue moving between different sounds and tempos.

That approach is reflected in the final track list: Black Prada Dress, Jealousy, Loser, 4 Seasons, Nobody Dances, Always Think of You, For Your Entertainment, Misremember You, the title track I Know Too Much and closing song Ravers.

The official album store describes the central idea as the possibility that people can sometimes “know too much”, with freedom instead coming from becoming comfortable with not knowing everything. It is an unusually reflective premise for an artist whose catalogue has repeatedly moved between intimate songwriting and large-scale electronic pop.

From heartbreak to a freer sound

When Goulding first announced the record, she spoke to NME about returning to a less calculated way of writing. She recalled the period before signing a record deal, when songs could emerge naturally without having to consider the expectations surrounding a major release.

That sense of freedom appears important to this era. Goulding said she continues to enjoy projects spanning classical music, electronic music and dance while still writing pop songs, but described the new material as neither deliberately mainstream nor deliberately unusual.

Some of its emotional foundations are more specific. Goulding has previously discussed how recent songwriting emerged after the end of her marriage, with music providing a way to process heartbreak and eventually move towards acceptance. The album therefore arrives with a personal context that differs from Higher Than Heaven, a record Goulding had deliberately described as less autobiographical.

A major UK pop release

I Know Too Much also lands with considerable chart expectations. Official Charts highlights Goulding’s formidable album history: four of her previous records have reached Number 1 in the UK. Her 2023 album Higher Than Heaven became her fourth chart-topper, adding to a career that has also produced major singles including Burn, Love Me Like You Do and the Calvin Harris collaboration Miracle.

Official Charts has placed I Know Too Much among the headline releases of this week’s New Music Friday, alongside new records from artists including Kasabian, Natalie Imbruglia and Sam Tompkins.

The album is available digitally as well as on physical formats. Goulding’s official UK store lists CD, cassette and vinyl editions, while Polydor is offering a Pearl Sunrise vinyl pressing. The standard CD comes in a four-panel digisleeve with a fold-out poster.

Ten songs rather than an oversized streaming album

At a time when some pop releases stretch across lengthy track lists and multiple editions, the standard version of I Know Too Much is comparatively concise at ten songs. That makes the record feel deliberately contained: one chapter rather than an attempt to document every possible direction Goulding could take.

What happens next commercially will become clearer when the first UK chart data arrives. What is already confirmed is that Ellie Goulding I Know Too Much album represents a distinct new stage in a career now extending well beyond fifteen years: personal without abandoning pop, reflective without stepping away from dance music, and built around an artist who says she feels increasingly free to follow whichever sound makes sense.
