Madonna and Kylie head for UK Top 10 with first official duet

Madonna and Kylie Minogue are heading towards a UK Top 10 debut with their first officially released recording together, “Love Sensation (Afterhours Mix)”.

The Official Charts Company’s First Look places the new collaboration at Number Eight and names it the week’s highest new entry so far. The position is provisional: the final Official Singles Chart will be confirmed on Friday after the remaining streams and sales have been counted.

Pop history finally reaches the studio

“Love Sensation (Afterhours Mix)” was released through Warner Records on Friday, 7 August. The six-minute track is a reworked version of “Love Sensation” from Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, with Kylie joining her on vocals. A shorter radio edit has also been released.

Stuart Price, whose long association with Madonna includes the original Confessions on a Dance Floor, produced the new version with Madonna. The result is the first official studio recording credited to both Madonna and Kylie, despite decades of overlapping careers and a long-running friendship between the two pop stars.

The pair first unveiled the remix live on 1 August, when Kylie made a surprise appearance during Madonna’s Club Confessions set at WorldPride Amsterdam. The performance turned an anticipated pop collaboration into a real one before the finished track arrived on streaming services later in the week.

What the early chart position means

At Number Eight in Sunday’s First Look, “Love Sensation” is currently on course to become Madonna’s 65th UK Top 10 single and Kylie’s 37th. Together, that would take their combined tally to 102 Top 10 hits.

Those numbers are not final yet. The First Look chart uses sales and streaming data gathered across the opening part of the chart week, so songs can rise or fall before Friday. The confirmed result will depend on how the remix performs over the next few days.

If it holds its place, the track would also arrive as this week’s highest-charting new release. It currently sits behind established hits including Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In”, which is pursuing another week at Number One.

Two remarkable UK chart careers

Madonna already holds the Official Chart record for the female artist with the most UK Number One singles, with 13. Her British chart history stretches back to the early 1980s and includes era-defining hits such as “Into the Groove”, “Like a Prayer”, “Vogue”, “Hung Up” and “Sorry”.

Kylie has scored 36 confirmed UK Top 10 singles to date, beginning with “I Should Be So Lucky” in 1988. Her catalogue ranges from Stock Aitken Waterman classics to “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, “All the Lovers” and the 2023 viral hit “Padam Padam”.

For all that shared chart history, their musical paths had never previously produced a commercially released duet. They did perform together during Madonna’s Celebration Tour in Los Angeles in March 2024, singing Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and a section of Kylie’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, but no studio track followed at the time.

From WorldPride to the UK chart

The new remix brings the pair together within Madonna’s current dance-pop chapter. Its live debut at WorldPride Amsterdam gave the release a celebratory setting, while the chart response suggests that the long-awaited pairing has connected well beyond the room where it premiered.

It is still too early to call “Love Sensation” a confirmed Top 10 hit. What can be said is that two of pop’s most recognisable voices have finally made an official record together, and British listeners have given it a strong opening weekend.

The final chart on Friday will reveal whether Madonna secures Top 10 number 65, Kylie reaches number 37 and their first studio collaboration completes its journey from surprise live moment to a new piece of UK chart history.
