The Cure’s 2027 concerts: Robert Smith says to expect new songs

The Cure’s 2027 concerts: Robert Smith says to expect new songs

Robert Smith has said he is looking forward to more concerts by The Cure in 2027 and expects the shows to feature new songs. The singer shared the update in a message to BBC Radio 6 Music on 3 November, as Nick Grimshaw revealed that the band had been named among the station’s Artists of the Year.

Smith gave no dates or locations. His comments point to another year of live activity after the band’s 2026 summer shows, with an indication that the material in the set could move beyond the songs fans heard this year.

What Smith said about The Cure’s 2027 concerts

In the message, reported by Parade, Smith said he was confident the shows would be “bursting with new songs”. He added that he could not say when or where they would take place. The update did not specify how many concerts were planned, and there is no UK itinerary or ticket information to act on yet.

The remarks concern what the group hopes to play live. Smith did not name the songs or announce when listeners would be able to hear them on record. For fans who have been following the band’s work on a follow-up to Songs of a Lost World, the latest message gives them a year to watch for more shows. The release plans remain open.

From the 2026 festival run to new material

Smith used the same message to look back on the year. His highlights included the band’s appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona at the start of June and its final summer show at Rock en Seine in Paris at the end of August. He counted 29 Cure shows in his account of the run. The group’s official site still carries the 2026 festival programme and its link to the Primavera performance.

The summer also brought Smith together with Olivia Rodrigo. He singled out performing with her for the live debut of What’s Wrong With Me. Official Charts’ coverage of the 6 Music selection notes his contribution to her album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love alongside the band’s own European shows.

For UK listeners who missed the festival set, the station’s programme announcement lists Primavera highlights in New Music Fix Daily on Thursday 5 November, in the 7pm to 9pm slot. The programme is part of 6 Music’s coverage of the artists it has selected for 2026.

The album that brought the band back to number one

The prospect of hearing more new material follows a significant return to recording. Songs of a Lost World arrived in November 2024, ending a 16-year gap between studio albums. The band’s album page credits Smith as writer and arranger and lists him and Paul Corkett as producers. Its eight tracks include Alone, A Fragile Thing and Endsong.

The record went straight to number one in the UK. That was The Cure’s first album to top the chart since Wish in 1992, a gap of 32 years. The chart result gives some context to the interest in what comes next: the band’s most recent studio work reached the top of the same chart as one of its best-known releases.

The album also led to a concert film, The Show of a Lost World. The band’s site lists a 31-song edition on DVD and Blu-ray, directed by Nick Wickham, with a surround sound mix by Smith. Alongside the Primavera broadcast, it offers another way to hear how the group brought this period of its work to the stage.

Smith had already discussed further recordings in a June interview with 6 Music, describing work beyond the album released in 2024. His November message now gives fans a clearer indication of how they might encounter some new songs: in a concert set. The places, dates and ticket details will have to wait for a formal announcement.
