Spice Girls Unveil Unreleased Demos for 30th Anniversary Singles Collection

The Spice Girls unreleased demos are finally coming out of the archive as part of a major new 30th anniversary release celebrating three decades of one of Britain’s biggest pop groups.

Following the cryptic teaser that sent fans into speculation mode this week, the reveal is a new The Singles Collection, due for release on 6 November. The collection brings together the Spice Girls’ singles and B-sides, alongside four previously unreleased demo recordings from the group’s archives.

The announcement gives a clear answer to the mystery surrounding the group’s teaser campaign. A video shared ahead of the reveal returned to the famous staircase associated with the “Wannabe” video and referenced the kind of newspaper advert that helped bring the group together in the first place. Fans were also told they would need a vinyl or CD player, a sizeable clue that the announcement was centred on physical music rather than a tour.

Four unreleased Spice Girls demos are coming

The biggest attraction for long-term fans is the inclusion of four Spice Girls unreleased demos. According to details reported by The Sun, the archive material includes “Do You Think About Me”, a track that has long been discussed among dedicated Spice Girls fans but has not previously received an official release.

The demos make the new collection more than another straightforward greatest-hits package. The group’s catalogue has been revisited before, including expanded anniversary editions of Spice and Spiceworld,  but archive recordings have become an important part of those celebrations. The official Spice Girls store confirms that the earlier Spiceworld 25 project similarly drew on the Virgin Records archive for previously unreleased recordings.

For collectors, The Singles Collection is being presented as a CD box set bringing together the singles and their B-sides. Each of the five Spice Girls — Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell — has also contributed an anniversary message to the collection.

Thirty years since Spice changed British pop

The timing brings the story back to 1996, when “Wannabe” transformed the Spice Girls from a new British act into a global pop phenomenon. The debut single became the starting point for a run that would make the five members some of the most recognisable personalities of the decade.

Their debut album, Spice, followed later that year, delivering songs including “Say You’ll Be There”, “2 Become 1” and “Who Do You Think You Are”. The combination of huge pop records, distinctive individual identities and the group’s “Girl Power” message gave the Spice Girls an influence that stretched far beyond the charts.

The anniversary has consequently generated persistent speculation about whether the five members might perform together again. That speculation intensified after this week’s deliberately mysterious campaign, but the newly revealed project is a catalogue celebration rather than a confirmed reunion tour.

That distinction is important. Earlier this year Melanie Chisholm said there were no plans in place for a 2026 reunion marking the anniversaries of “Wannabe” and Spice. The latest announcement does not change that position by confirming a live comeback, so reports of a new five-member tour would go beyond what has actually been announced.

A release aimed directly at the fans

Instead, the decision to include unheard recordings gives the anniversary project something fans cannot simply find on an existing greatest-hits playlist. For an audience that has spent decades collecting singles, imports, remixes and B-sides, officially opening the archive is arguably the most interesting part of the release.

It also follows an established pattern. The Spice Girls’ official store describes the previous Spiceworld 25 edition as having been curated by the group themselves, combining the original album with bonus tracks, B-sides and previously unreleased recordings from the Virgin archive. That release included unheard live performances and an original demo of “Step To Me”.

The new Spice Girls unreleased demos therefore continue a welcome move towards treating the group’s archive as part of their musical legacy rather than simply repackaging the familiar hits.

Thirty years after “Wannabe”, those hits remain at the heart of the Spice Girls story. But for fans who already know every “zig-a-zig-ah”, the prospect of finally hearing recordings that have spent decades in the vault may be the more exciting anniversary present.
