Camp Rock 3 reunites Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers

The Camp Rock 3 Disney+ release will bring Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers back together when the musical sequel arrives for UK viewers on Friday 14 August.

Lovato reprises her role as Mitchie Torres in a cameo, while Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas return as Shane, Nate and Jason Gray, the three members of fictional band Connect 3. All four original stars are also executive producers on the film.

It marks the first new Camp Rock movie since Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam was released in 2010. The original Disney Channel musical introduced Mitchie and Connect 3 in 2008, making the third instalment a return to the franchise after 16 years.

Demi Lovato returns as Mitchie Torres

Lovato’s on-screen involvement was kept quiet during much of the film’s promotion. Disney originally confirmed her as an executive producer, but her appearance as Mitchie was only officially revealed shortly before the release.

The singer and actor has now reunited publicly with the Jonas Brothers and the film’s younger cast. Lovato joined Joe, Nick and Kevin at the Los Angeles premiere on 10 August, confirming that all four of the original leads are involved in Camp Rock 3.

Mitchie was the central character in the first two films, beginning as a shy young singer hoping to find her voice at a prestigious summer music camp. Her relationship with Joe Jonas’s character, Shane Gray, became one of the series’ main storylines.

Lovato’s appearance in the new film is described as a cameo rather than a leading role. The story instead places a fresh group of campers at its centre while using Mitchie and Connect 3 to link the new chapter with the originals.

Maria Canals-Barrera also returns as Mitchie’s mother, Connie Torres.

Connect 3 searches for its opening act

Camp Rock 3 follows Connect 3 as the group prepares for a reunion tour. When the band loses its planned opening act, Shane, Nate and Jason return to Camp Rock to find an emerging performer who can join them on the road.

Their search creates a competition among the latest generation of campers, each hoping to secure the opportunity. Disney says the situation produces new friendships, rivalries and romantic complications as the young musicians compete.

Liamani Segura leads the new cast as Sage, described by Disney as bold and determined. Malachi Barton plays Fletch, while Hudson Stone appears as Sage’s easygoing brother, Desi.

The new campers also include Lumi Pollack as cello prodigy Rosie, Casey Trotter as drummer Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as choreographer Callie and Ava Jean as influencer Madison.

The third film is directed by Veronica Rodriguez and written by Eydie Faye. Jamal Sims provides the choreography, while Tim Federle joins Lovato and the Jonas Brothers among its executive producers.

New music joins the Camp Rock catalogue

Music remains central to the new story. Entertainment Weekly reports that the soundtrack includes Come On Over, a new song from the Jonas Brothers, alongside the cast number One Beat Away, led by Segura.

The songs will be measured against a catalogue that remains closely associated with Disney Channel’s late-2000s musical era. The first two films introduced tracks including This Is Me, We Rock and Can’t Back Down to a generation of viewers.

Disney says Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2 were among its ten biggest Disney Channel Original Movies and were the channel’s most-watched cable movie premieres in their respective release years.

That history gives the sequel two audiences to serve. Its younger cast is intended to introduce Camp Rock to viewers discovering the franchise for the first time, while the return of Lovato and the Jonas Brothers provides the connection longtime fans have been waiting for.

Camp Rock returns for UK viewers

The Camp Rock 3 Disney+ release is confirmed for Friday 14 August in the UK. The film premieres on Disney Channel in the United States one day earlier, on Thursday 13 August.

Disney+ already carries the original Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam in the UK, allowing the complete series to sit together once the new film arrives.

Rather than attempting to recreate the original story with the same characters, Camp Rock 3 uses Connect 3’s search for a support act to pass the focus to a new group. Lovato’s return ensures that Mitchie is part of that transition, even though she is no longer the film’s central camper.

The result is a genuine reunion for the stars who established the franchise, combined with a new musical competition designed for its next generation.
