Sugababes Announce Self-Titled Album as Original Trio Release Ghost

The Sugababes new album has finally been confirmed, with original members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhán Donaghy announcing a self-titled record for 12 February 2027.

Simply called Sugababes, the album will be the first full studio record from the founding trio since their 2000 debut One Touch. The announcement arrives alongside new single “Ghost”, which is available now with an accompanying video.

Sugababes return with a full new album

The new record contains 12 tracks and follows several years in which the original Sugababes have gradually rebuilt the group as an active recording and touring act rather than simply revisiting their old hits.

The tracklisting includes “Peace & Love”, “Jungle”, “Ghost”, “Love Language”, “Modern Love”, “Shook”, “After All”, “Weeds”, “Plot Twist”, “Scorpio”, “Ain’t It Funny” and “Full Circle”.

Some of those titles will already be familiar to fans. “Jungle”, “Shook” and “Weeds” arrived during the trio’s renewed period together, while “Ghost” now provides the official launch for the album itself.

The group said they deliberately avoided rushing the project, explaining that as the songs and overall sound came together, it became increasingly obvious that the record should simply carry the Sugababes name.

“Ghost” looks back at a relationship that disappeared

The new single puts the trio’s distinctive vocal blend firmly at the centre.

Siobhán Donaghy told British Vogue that “Ghost” was inspired by her first love and the experience of somebody suddenly disappearing from her life, years before the modern term “ghosting” became part of everyday language.

It gives the song a particularly personal starting point while also fitting comfortably into a Sugababes catalogue that has often combined polished pop production with lyrics about relationships that are considerably messier underneath.

A complicated journey back to Sugababes

The significance of the Sugababes new album becomes clearer when looking at how long it has taken the original trio to reach this point.

Buena, Buchanan and Donaghy formed Sugababes in the late 1990s and released One Touch in 2000. Donaghy subsequently left the group, beginning a series of line-up changes that eventually resulted in all three founding members being replaced.

Years later, Mutya, Keisha and Siobhán reunited under the name Mutya Keisha Siobhan before eventually reclaiming the Sugababes name.

Previously unreleased recordings from that period later emerged as The Lost Tapes, but the 2027 album is something different: a newly created studio record made specifically by the original trio as Sugababes.

Pitchfork describes it as only their second album together in their original configuration.

The album will not stay in one musical lane

Early descriptions suggest the record will move across several styles rather than attempting to recreate one particular period from the group’s past.

Material surrounding the release points towards pop, R&B, garage and Amapiano influences, continuing the genre-mixing approach that has characterised Sugababes at different points throughout their career. That approach also makes sense for a group whose biggest records have ranged from the stripped-back sound of “Overload” to songs including “Freak Like Me”, “Round Round”, “Push the Button” and “About You Now”.

The challenge for the new record is therefore not to sound like Sugababes did in 2000, but to establish what Mutya, Keisha and Siobhán sound like together now.

British Vogue describes the album as a full-circle moment for the trio, more than a quarter of a century after One Touch.

A new chapter rather than another reunion

That distinction may be the most interesting part of this release.

For several years, the story around the original Sugababes was largely about the fact that they were together again at all.

A complete new album changes that.

Instead of the comeback being defined principally by festivals, anniversary performances and the group’s extraordinary back catalogue, there will now be an entirely new 12-song record sitting alongside it.
