Amy Winehouse Back to Black 20 will bring some of the musicians and producers behind one of Britain’s most celebrated albums back together for a one-night-only concert at London’s Roundhouse.
The special performance takes place on Wednesday 21 October, just days before Back to Black marks 20 years since its original release.
Album producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi will reunite with members of the Amy Winehouse Band to perform the record, joined by a substantial line-up of guest vocalists including FLO, Jorja Smith, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jessie Reyez, Lianne La Havas, Yebba, Baby Rose, Nia Smith, Sasha Keable and Skye Newman.
Back to Black returns to Camden
The location makes the anniversary particularly significant.
The Roundhouse is in Camden, the London borough that became closely associated with Winehouse throughout her career and remains an important part of her cultural legacy.
Her long-time musical director and bass player Dale Davis will lead members of her former band, while Ronson and Remi return to material they originally helped create.
Other collaborators involved in the event include producers Paul O’Duffy and p*nut and former Island Records president Darcus Beese.
Rather than presenting a conventional tribute concert built around unrelated covers, the show brings together people directly involved in Winehouse’s music alongside a new generation of singers.
A huge guest line-up
The list of vocalists gives the Amy Winehouse Back to Black 20 concert considerable scale of its own.
FLO, Jorja Smith, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jessie Reyez, Lianne La Havas and Yebba are among the artists currently confirmed, with the Roundhouse promising further guests.
Ronson said he was honoured to celebrate Winehouse alongside artists capable of doing justice to the record, while Remi reflected on the two decades that have passed since the album was made.
Exactly which singer will perform each individual song has not yet been announced.
The performance is also being filmed.
Official Charts reports that the concert will later be broadcast on BBC Two as part of a night of programming celebrating Winehouse, while Jo Whiley will air the show on BBC Radio 2 on 26 October.
Twenty years of Back to Black
Released in October 2006, Back to Black transformed Winehouse from an acclaimed British singer-songwriter into an international star.
The album includes “Rehab”, “You Know I’m No Good”, “Love Is a Losing Game”, “Tears Dry on Their Own” and its title track.
It topped the UK Albums Chart and became the UK’s best-selling album of 2007. The record also went on to win Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards, while “Rehab” won Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Winehouse died in 2011 aged 27, but the album has continued to reach new audiences through streaming, reissues and repeated returns to the UK charts.
A new 20th anniversary edition is being released on 23 October, featuring expanded material including demos, B-sides and a 2007 live performance recorded at Amsterdam’s Paradiso.
When do tickets go on sale?
The Roundhouse lists tickets between £146.75 and £290.50.
Presales begin on 29 September, while the general public sale opens at 10am on Thursday 1 October. Fans who pre-order the anniversary edition through Amy Winehouse’s official store before the specified deadline can receive access to an artist presale.
