One of these artists will represent Italy at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool!

First of all, a warning: this article will be updated with more informations regularly so…save it!

This year, GlitterBeam will follow again the Sanremo Music Festival, the biggest italian music show. The winner of Sanremo get the chance to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest. But Sanremo is much more, it’s a moment where a whole country, for a week, freeze completely. You can catch up our live commentary of the (LONG) 2022 final here

Sanremo 2023 will be held from the 7th to the 11th February.

On Sunday 04/12/2022, Amadeus, presenter and art director, announced the first 22 “Big” Contestant. The first new for 2023: the songs will be 28 (!!!), with 22 “Big” (artists already famous) and 6 “Newcomers” that will be selected on the 15/12/2022 in a special prime time show. The first 22 artists have pleased many fans, with very big italian names returning! Here’s some more information about them:

Giorgia – Parole Dette Male
Giorgia full name Giorgia Todrani is one of Italys most famous singers. Her vocal range famously spans 4 octaves. She won Sanremo in 1995, finished third in 1996 and came second in 2001.Shes one of the most famous Italian singers, she has released ten studio albums all enjoying commercial success. Giorgia has become fairly well known throughout Europe as an ambassador for Italian pop music, and has also achieved moderate success in Canada and Latin America

 

Articolo 31 – Un Bel Viaggio
Articolo 31 is a band from Milan, Italy, formed in 1990 by J-Ax and DJ Jad, combining hip hop, funk, pop and traditional Italian musical forms.Their posse, Spaghetti Funk, includes other popular performers like Space One and pop rappers Gemelli DiVersi. In June 2021 J-Ax declared “I will never take part in Sanremo, it’s a promise I wanna keep for my fans”

 

Elodie – Due
Singer. Actress. Model. Elodie does it all. After finishing second on the show Amici di Maria De Filippi, she went on to release three studio albums. Youll definitely know her two Sanremo songs: 2017s Tutta colpa mia and 2020s Andromeda. Since 2015 she had published three studio albums, which entered the top 10 of the Italian Albums Chart, and numerous successful singles. She has sold over one million copies certified by FIMI and earned a MTV Europe Music Award for Best Italian Act nomination

 

Colapesce Dimartino – Splash
Lorenzo Urciullo, known professionally as Colapesce, is an Italian singer-songwriter. The 39-year-old participated in the festival in 2021 alongside Dimartino. Their song Musica leggerissima placed fourth and received the Lucio Dalla Press, Radio, TV & Web Award.

 

 

Ariete – Mare di guai
Arianna Del Giaccio, known professionally as Ariete, is an Italian singer and songwriter.Shes considered one of the most interesting names on the indie music scene.Ariete is openly bisexual, and has expressed same-sex love as a theme in some of her songs, also doing activism on social platforms and during her concerts

 

 

Moda’ – Lasciami
Mod is an Italian pop band from Milan. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of lead singer Kekko Silvestre, guitarists Diego Arrigoni and Enrico Zapparoli, bass guitarist Stefano Forcella and drummer Claudio Dirani. They previously participated in the festival in 2005, 2011 and 2013. Their 2011 contribution a collab with Emma came second.

 

 

Mara Sattei – Duemilaminuti
Her real name is Sara Mattei. Mara rose to fame on YouTube, where she started uploading covers in 2009. She has collaborations with icons like Carl Brave, Gazzelle, and Giorgia.She took part to the reality show Amici in 2013, and she was eliminated during the final stage, on the second live show. After the reality show she stopped her musical career, and she moved to London, where she found inspiration again. She resumed her musical career in 2019

 

 

Leo Gassmann – Terzo Cuore
Leonardo Gassman, better known as Leo Gassmann (born 22 November 1998) is an Italian singer and songwriter.
Born in Rome, he is the son of the actors Alessandro Gassmann and Sabrina Knaflitz and the grandson of the actors Vittorio Gassman and Juliette Mayniel.
Leo placed fifth on X Factor in 2018. He won the Newcomers section at Sanremo in 2020 with Vai bene cosi.

 

 

I Cugini di Campagna – Lettera 22
The Countryside Cousins work across dance-pop, pop-rock and easy listening. Founded in 1970, they are well known for the use of falsetto and for their eccentric look, a cross between glam and kitsch. According to rumours, their song has been written by “La Rappresentante di Lista” (group participating in Sanremo 2022 with “Ciao Ciao”)

 

 

Mr. Rain – Supereroi
Mr. Rain real name Mattia Balardi is a rapper and record producer who rose to fame on X Factor. In 2020 his song Fiori di Chernobyl hit #2 on the Top Singles chart.

 

 

 

Marco Mengoni – Due Vite
Marco Mengoni is a massive star. After winning the italian X factor, He placed third at Sanremo 2010 before winning it all in 2013 with Lessenziale, which went on the place seventh at Eurovision. Among other accolades, hes also won Best Italian Act and Best European Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

 

 

Anna Oxa – Sali (Canto dellanima)
Shes considered one of the most beautiful voices in Italy. This will be her 15th appearance as a singer in the festival. The 61-year-old debuted at Sanremo in 1978, placing second with Unemozione da poco. She won the festival in 1989, performing the duet Ti lascer with Fausto Leali. She won the festival again in 1999 this time as a soloist with Senza piet. Many controversies surround her recently.

 

 

Lazza – Cenere
Known to his parents as Jacopo Lazzarini, Lazza is an alternative hip-hop artist with three albums under his belt. His album Sirio topped the FIMI Album Chart for 14 weeks. This is the artist that sold the most in 2020. Sirio the longest of any album over the past decade.Hes the italian artist selling the most in 2022.

 

 

Tananai – Tango
Pop singer Tananai was among the 12 acts to compete in Sanremo Giovani last year. He placed second in that round with Esagerata. He went on to compete at the festival with Sesso occasionale, which finished last on the fifth night.Despite this he was able to become a twitter sensation for his ironic comments about his last placement and since the last Festival his songs are constantly in the top10.

 

 

Paola & Chiara – Furore
They are the best-selling Italian female group, having pushed more than 5 million records. They won the Newcomers section at Sanremo in 1997. This is a big return: they didnt perform together for many years (despite being sister).

 

 

LDA – Se poi domani
LDA is an Italian rapperwho happens to be the son of singer-songwriter Gigi DAlessio. His 2022 EP Bandana debuted at #3 on the FIMI Album charts.He took part to the reality show Amici

 

 

Madame – Il bene nel male
Madame, full name Francesca Calearo, shot to fame as a 16-year-old when Cristiano Ronaldo shared her single Sciccherie on Instagram. In 2021 she became the first female rapper to compete in the main section of Sanremo (with the song Voce).

 

 

Gianluca Grignani – Quando ti manca il fiato
The 50-year-old rocker isnt just known in Italy. His song La mia storia tra le dita was a massive hit across Ibero-America.A huge career, specially in the 90s, not without controversies, Gianluca Grignani is another big return that not many were expecting.

 

 

Rosa Chemical – Made in Italy
Rosa Chemical is known for trap and hip-hop. He was a guest on covers night at the most recent edition of the festival, performing a new arrangement of Raffaella Carrs A far lamore comincia tu.

 

 

 

Colla Zio – Non Mi Va
Colla Zio is a five-piece band from Milan that sings about Gen Z and all of its uncertainties, freshness and contradictions. Their songs captures the everyday images of those in their 20s today.

 

 

 

Coma_cose – Laddio
The indie-pop group competed at Sanremo in 2021 with Fiamme negli occhi. It finished 20th, but went on to peak at #6 on the FIMI Singles Chart and was certified double platinum in Italy.

 

 

 

Levante – Vivo
She performed at Sanremo in 2020 with the song Tikibombom, placing 12th in the final. It went on to peak at #8 on the Italian charts. She was also a judge on the italian X factor

 

 

Ultimo – Alba
Ultimo has a stellar track record at Sanremo. The pop singer won the Newcomers category in 2018 and was runner-up to Mahmood in the final in 2019.A controversy surrounded him in the press conference after the 2019 final. It was the artist who has been present for more weeks (149) in the chart in 2021, with a record of four simultaneous albums in the annual chart

 

 

 

gIANMARIA – La citta che odi
Born Gianmaria Volpato, he is a rap singer-songwriter who came runner-up at X Factor Italia 2021 as a member of the team led by Emma Marrone.

 

 

Olly – Polvere
Born Federico Olivieri, OLLYbegan his career in the rap scene after attending conservatory. The meeting with producer JVLI turned the genre of his songs toward electronics and the tight rhythms of dance.

 

 

Shari – Egoista
Shari Noioso gets a pass to the Festival on her second participation in Sanremo Giovani. She made her first TV appearance when she was only 13 years old by participating in the show Tu s que vales.

 

 

 

Sethu – Cause Perse
Marco De Lauri aka Sethu is a rapper and singer. Metal and punk influences are strongly present in his musical background, so much so that his name is a reference to At the Gate of Sethu, album by the death metal band Nile

 

 

Will – Stupido
